Though best known for her twenty three children's books, especially Peter Rabbit, Helen Beatrix Potter was a natural scientist as well. She was widely respected in the field of mycology and through her efforts at land conservation, is credited with preserving much of the land that now constitutes the Lake District National Park in England.
